septmeber in Vietnam

Posted by jackiep on 20/7/2012 at 09:47

My husband and I are thinking About visiting Vietnam for the first time in September. Our plan is to start in Hanoi and make our way to HCM over 18 or 19 days. Not long I know But it is all the time we can take. I have a few questions: 1. Do I Need to book tours, train tickets, internal flights and accommodation in advance? We would prefer to have the flexibility to move at our own pace 2. Halong Bay while definitely somewhere I would like to see seems very busy - I heard there are other loca ...

Posted by travelbug86 on 26/8/2012 at 18:41

Hi all! My travel party of 6 people are toying the idea of hiring a private car/van to drive us from da nang to loas. Is this a silly idea or a good one? Im not to sure as I was thinking that it might be a good way to see the country side but I do not want to get into any trouble or have any awkward border crossing difficulties. Thanks, travelbug ...

More than 4 weeks in Vietnam?

Posted by GhostOfTomJoad on 26/8/2012 at 07:12

Hi, i'm new to the forums but i imagine i will be posting a lot in the next few months, as I am due to go to South East Asia for 6 months at the end of October. I am going to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and then back to Thailand (and depending on how much time I have to Myanmar for a week). Because i have a lot of time, I was thinking of spending more than 4 weeks in Vietnam, perhaps 5 or even 6 weeks, but i'm not sure about the visa situation. I know I need a visa, which I will get from ...

My 3 week itinery in Vietnam - tips?

Posted by AndyPandy on 22/8/2012 at 03:24

Hi guys, I've mapped out my first itinery for the Vietnam leg of my trip (going to 4 countries in 3 months). Does this seem do-able in 3 weeks? Because I'm away for 12 weeks in total and wanted to spend about 3 weeks per country, I just wanted to gauge if it seems I'm taking on too much or if this is achievable. I'm still only loosely using an itinery but wanted to have something to follow. Also, does anyone have any hostel recommendations please? I'm researching Cambodia next and just wanted ...

Solo Traveller

Posted by j9vanlog on 20/8/2012 at 21:54

Hi all I'm going to be in HCM from 28/08 and since I'm travelling alone, I'd love some company. I'm fine with doing tours etc on my own but don't love the idea of going out for drinks or a night on the town alone. Since I'm not staying at a backpackers it's a bit difficult to meet people. If anyone is heading out and would like some company, drop me a line. Cheers. ...

Teaching Jobs

Posted by TimC on 12/8/2012 at 08:26

Hi - I am about to to take a Cambridge CELTA and plan to head out to Vietnam in early October to try and find a job teaching English. I really want to be on the coast and have been looking at Nha Trang and Da Nang. Does anyone know of any schools I could email? Or have any advice on how to find work? I am 52 and have over 20 years experience working with children in different capacities, including many years teaching, although I don't have a PGCE and am new to TEFL. Any advice would be gratefu ...

Taking a DSLR

Posted by Nicnak on 14/7/2012 at 21:08

Ive done a heap of traveling around Europe/Eastern Europe and Asia and consider myself pretty travel smart. But, Im wondering if it will be worth the hassle to take my DSLR on this trip, my first to Vietnam. More the hassle of it attracting unwanted eyes or it being stolen from me somewhere or my room than the hassle of carrying it about. Im traveling with my partner who is 6"2 who i was planning of getting to carry the camera as I dont think they would try and steal it from him! ......... ...

Ethnographic Museum of Buon Ma Thuot

Posted by Suturn on 5/8/2012 at 04:47

As for the Volunteering in Da Lat and for the same header problem in posting my review I post here: Amazingly Necessary, I'm really surprised this wonderful museum, re-newed in 2011, doesn't receive more visits by foreigners in the area who, more likely, prefer to visit the Amusement Ethnic Villages in the area. The museum is neatly organized in three rich and detailed sections: History: with neolitic findings and then, with a big jump forward (the middle ages are represented by a cannon wit ...

REAL Sinh Cafe website??!!

Posted by Noggins on 4/6/2009 at 07:55

The lonely planet says the website is , which is the one we used, checked and have booked a ticket with the agency from. Just heard from someone else who says this isnt the one! Too late now, but does anyone know which is the REAL one to save booking wrong in future? Also, be careful with the lonely planet, as it has an address listing for Sinh Cafe in one place, but then has it on the wrong road on the map- of course someone has taken up the opportunity to place a fake sinh ...

Buying Plane Tickets While in Vietnam

Posted by krestniy on 26/7/2011 at 05:51

Hi, everyone. My friend and I will be traveling in Vietnam for 20 days and are wondering whether we should buy local airfare tickets NOW (3 months in advance) or whether we can get them as cheaply while in Vietnam? This will allow us to keep our route more flexible. For example: Can we purchase a flight from Vietnam (most likely Da Nang airport) to Luang Prabang economically, even if it 10 days before the flight? Is it perhaps even more economical to do it that way with a local travel agent ...

Cannot post directly on the review page, it says there's a problem with changing the Header. Stuff for admins! Anyway I post here my comment: No Volunteering. At All. I went to the school, found out that now a French-Vietnamese couple lives there and they just give private lessons (don't know anything about the kids the reviewer is talking about) and they sent me to the actual academy, which is a huge Trinity Certification-thing (Nam Ky Khoi Nghia st, 72) and they don't want volunteers, but j ...

Central Highlands weather in July

Posted by BanhMi on 14/5/2010 at 01:50

Planning a trip through the Central Highlands in early July (by motorbike, naturally). The travelfish article describes the weather as such: "Through July and early August the rain can seem to be almost continual." The motorcycle tour company contact said that it would rain sometimes in some places, but that I would still be able to enjoy my trip (of course, he wants my money). I realize the weather might be turn out to be better or worse than normal for the week I'm up there, but more inpu ...
