Sapa Trekking

Posted by Ally_the_Cat on 20/3/2012 at 21:07

I am looking to spend about 6-7 days in Sapa in early April to do some trekking. The two treks I am most interested in are Fansipan and the Ban Ho village trek/hot springs (both found on travelfish). Is that enough time and any personal suggestions/experiences for homestays/hostels in a backpacker budget range that could also help arrange a guide? Any personal experiences/stories on these two treks would be greatly appreciated as well ...

Shipping baggage to USA

Posted by vietabroad on 3/4/2012 at 11:43

After my Viet Nam stay, I'll be moving on to China. I'd like to ship a suitcase (about 50 lbs) back to the USA and avoid the extra baggage fees. Any recommendations for a company that will do this? DHL is charging over $400 which is too expensive. I'd like to pay no more than the extra baggage fees I'd have to pay anyway, which will probably be a little over $200. ...

Vientiane to Vinh Bus Advice

Posted by book_reader1 on 5/4/2012 at 01:16

I will be traveling from the Vientiane bus station (GPS 18.0293,102.6501) (this is the Southern Bus Terminal (Dong Dok)) to the Vinh , Vietnam bus station (listed on Google maps as "Bến xe Vinh") (GPS 18.6793,105.6737). I am going to Hanoi , but I don't want to take a bus all the way. I am, therefore, going to take a bus to Vinh, so I can then walk to the Vinh train station (GPS 18.6882,105.6644) and just take a train to Hanoi from there. Basically, I am going to use a train ...

If any one is looking to have a bit of a splurge for their accommation in Hoi An, I can recommend The Long Life Riverside hotel, just over the river from the old town. Rooms are $35/night, which put clubs rooms @ the Sheraton to shame. The rooms are massive & absolutely stunning. The latex matresses & pillows are perfect. The bathtub (or spa)are nice. The pool is a great relief @ the end of a hot day. The staff are excellent & speak excellent English (the reception girls have a very ...

VND, USD or my dashing good looks??

Hi All, When in Vietnam, do I pay in VND or USD for things like food, taxi, massage, tours, shopping items etc. I don't want to exchange a ton of USD and then turn around and have to change it back, thus getting screwed on the exchange rate back to AUD. What is the recommended amount to have with me when I hit the airport in both currencies? If there are people out there that can assist, I would be most grateful. As you can see by my question, I don't think I will be able to get away with thin ...
