This is my situation, we are three families of four (2 adults, 2 teenage kids each family). We are flying into HCMC on 17/1 next year for a total of 16 days. I would be most grateful if people would suggest: * A travel itenary * great things to see * great places to eat * great accomodation * what the weather is like in this area in January Not keen on doing too much travelling around but definitely want to spend time in HCMC and a nice beach destination. ...

Vietnam Approximate Costs To Help New Travellers

Posted by Benno on 2/7/2012 at 04:54

Hi All, Just returned from 2 weeks in the north of Vietnam. 3D2N Ha Long Bay trip, 4N in SAPA and then the final 4 in Hanoi. For travellers new to this country, below is a list of items and their approximate costs so you know that you are either getting ripped off or the cost is roughly where it should be. I had trouble coming to terms with forking out 20,000VND on a can of coke, but it is actually $1AUD/USD. Please note that the prices are general and will vary. For Australian and US trav ...

Ha Long Bay cruises

Posted by gulliverandmarc on 24/5/2012 at 06:49

We are planning a trip to Vietnam in a few months' time and wonder what is the best way to book a cruise in Ha Long Bay. We're not sure we'll be going straight to Ha Long from Hanoi , so is it really necessary to take the tour from Hanoi or can we show up in Hai Phong for instance and find a tour when we get there? ...

Another Weather Question- Sorry :(

Posted by Benno on 6/7/2012 at 02:33

Hi Everyone, Looking at spending a few weeks in the central/southern part of Vietnam in NOVEMBER (1st 3 weeks) this year. Locations are the Hoi An area and HCMC. By area I mean we have not decided on HA or Danang as launch pads yet (suggestions??) We are looking at spending a few days in HCMC then heading up to Hoi An to explore the surrounds. I know there were floods last year that decimated the area as well as other countries, but was this a one off super system or is it a regular occurr ...

Where to Stop Along the Coast?

Posted by rrockwell on 15/5/2012 at 02:13

I will be taking the train from Hanoi to Saigon later this month. I was hoping to stop before Saigon, buy a motorbike, relax for a week, then bike to Saigon. Where might I be interested in staying during this time? I was thinking Nha Trang or Phan Thiet as that is where I'm told the train stops. I'm looking to do this economically. ...

Mekong Delta advice

Posted by junebug on 12/5/2012 at 07:43

We'd like to visit the Mekong Delta for a few days as part of our route from HCMC-Phu Quoc-Siem Reap, but are undecided how best to incorporate this and which towns to include. We have about 3 days budgeted for the delta (an additional 3 days in Phu Quoc). A couple of options we thought of: 1) Take bus from HCMC to a town such as Ben Tre / Vinh Long/Tra Vinh for a 1-2 days, then onward to Can Tho for the floating markets. Fly from Can Tho to Phu Quoc. Leaving Phu Quoc we'd take the ferry to Ha ...

Vietnam transit visa

Posted by shann on 10/1/2008 at 07:50

We will be travelling around Vietnam for 2 weeks or so (obviously will need a single entry visa for this) and then heading onto Cambodia and Laos for about 3 weeks. On our return journey back to NZ we will be flying from Laos and then transferring planes in Hanoi to connect with another international flight. We won’t be leaving the airport so does anyone know whether the single entry visa is sufficient or will we need a multiple entry visa? I can't seem to get a definite answer from the co ...

Vietnam Motorbike Tour Dalat to Hue September - October 2010

Hello, I'm a British tourist currently in Nha Trang , Vietnam. I want to travel by motorbike up through the Central Highlands as far north as Hue , or possibly even all the way to Hanoi . This post is to find out if anybody is planning a similar journey or would be interested in joining me for part of the way. My preference would be to buy a bike and then sell it later because the Easy Rider tours are so expensive (yes, I know they're awesome). But, although I have ridden automatic and semi ...

Hi Folks, I am going to Thailand, Cambodia(Angkor Wat and Phnom Pehn) and Vietnam (Saigon, Mekong river) I decided to take Paludrine (I think another name is Proguanil) for Malaria precautions. Does anyone have any feedback about it? Some websites state it is less effective (~70% effectiveness) than Malarone (~95% effectiveness). Is there any restrictions in terms of how many tablets I can carry with me? Thanks Diyan ...

However, I'm so glad I did!!! I picked the Shrimp Burger (rice!) and the taste of it just blew me away!!!! It was soooo yummy!!! Right on the spot!!! I love love every single bite of it. omg.
