Motorbike excursion from Saigon to Can Tho

Posted by hallf_brick on 22/4/2012 at 22:35

We're planning a 3 week trip to Vietnam in late July. We arrive into Saigon and are thinking of hiring motorbikes and heading to Can Tho and exploring a little of the Delta on the way. Not too much of it, just basically drive to Can Tho and make a few small excursions and stops on the way. We were thinking - One day travel there - A day exploring/motorbiking around the countryside - A day's travel back to Saigon Is that too short? It's just we want to fly up to Hanoi as soon as we get back ...

Nanning (China) to Mong Cai (Vietnam)

Posted by caiuss on 17/4/2012 at 05:26

Hi, Next week I'll arrive at Nanning train station at 8.15pm. Does someone know if it's possible still on the same day to catch a bus to Pingxiang (near the Friendship border), or to Dongxing (near the sea and near to another border crossing)? A night bus would also do it ... though due to the short distances I don't believe there are night buses. I want to get to Mong Cai (Mong Cai is on the Vietnamese side of the border of Dongxing) as soon as possible. I'm currently living in China, and hav ...

Travel warning for end of April in Vietnam

Posted by travellingsarah on 15/4/2012 at 01:37

Angela recently wrote in the Saigon blog about the upcoming Reunification Day and May Day holidays (30th April and 1st May). As I sit here trying to book a last minute trip away from Hanoi for the weekend, with little luck, I thought it worth re-enforcing the points she made about travel disruption: as it stands, flights out of Hanoi to most domestic destinations (OK, I haven't checked them all) are fully booked at least for a few of the days over the weekend, and there are no trains to Lao ...

Just returned from Vietnam today (my thoughts)

Posted by xan310 on 8/4/2012 at 06:20

I arrived in Saigon and traveled by train to Hanoi stopping in Hoi An . Saigon didn't offer many interesting things and if I knew better I would have spend 0 days here so I had more time in Hoi An. The air quality in Saigon is terrible, if you come here have dinner at Monsoon Restaurant (very good). I went to the Ben Thanh Market, the sellers mostly woman will harass you until you just want to run out the door which it took me about 3 minutes. The train to Hoi An from Saigon was delayed and I ...

NEVER AGAIN / Phuong Dong Hotel

Posted by owsiphilippines on 7/4/2012 at 19:27

NEVER AGAIN / Phuong Dong Hotel I stayed in Phuong Dong Hotel near Noi Bai Airport to stay close to the airport and save on travel time and was hoping to be bright eyed and bushy tailed for my early morning flight the following day. Was I wrong, did not have the good night rest that I expected. The bed sheets looked like it had not been changed, the bed and pillows are hard and the cost of the taxi service to the airport at 4:30 AM was exhorbitant, probably not considering that taxi in that par ...

Sapa to halong bay...possible?

Posted by lachiec on 3/6/2011 at 11:52

Hey does anyone have any experience taking an overnight train back to Hanoi from sapa and getting straight on a pre Booked tour to halong bay? I'm worried it might be a bit hectic to do so much moving. but if we have a decent sleeper carriage will we get a sleep on the train? Also is it reliable to book a halong bay tour and assume we can get straight from the train station arriving at 4-5am to get to the tour start on time(we were going to book through Hanoi backpackers or follow the flashp ...

Mount Fansipan 2D/1N - Finding Guides and Buddies

Posted by navilink on 9/4/2012 at 23:28

I'm looking for information and hiking buddy for climbing Mount Fansipan on 2day/1night. I will be in Sapa around 10-13May so any 2 days around that dates will do. I just need the basics - permit, guide, transport, food, tent and blanket. Meaning, the tour price only includes the hiking needs. I search many tours but they include hotel, porter, train transfer and other 'luxury' stuffs that I don't really need. I guess you can call this independent tour/guide. As I *might* be hiking alone, th ...

Sapa Trekking

Posted by Ally_the_Cat on 20/3/2012 at 21:07

I am looking to spend about 6-7 days in Sapa in early April to do some trekking. The two treks I am most interested in are Fansipan and the Ban Ho village trek/hot springs (both found on travelfish). Is that enough time and any personal suggestions/experiences for homestays/hostels in a backpacker budget range that could also help arrange a guide? Any personal experiences/stories on these two treks would be greatly appreciated as well ...

Shipping baggage to USA

Posted by vietabroad on 3/4/2012 at 11:43

After my Viet Nam stay, I'll be moving on to China. I'd like to ship a suitcase (about 50 lbs) back to the USA and avoid the extra baggage fees. Any recommendations for a company that will do this? DHL is charging over $400 which is too expensive. I'd like to pay no more than the extra baggage fees I'd have to pay anyway, which will probably be a little over $200. ...
