Hi have heard that you can catch a bus from Hanoi to the Chinese Border and from there a bus to Nanning so as to link up with the train to travel to Bejing. Is that correct can anyone advise please. Am planning to travel from June til start of September 2016 crossing into China at the start of August intending to travel on the Mongolian/Siberia Rail to Moscow ...

There is now an alternative to the overnight train up to Sapa. The new road has been completed and the bus leaves daily from Hanoi (they pick up from your hotel) and takes around 4 hours. The bus seats were the most luxurious and comfortable I have ever sat on (think business class on a plane - not that I have sat in one of those!).
