Great place to stay in HCMC

Posted by roxyvh on 28/4/2008 at 12:49

Very busy district 1 is great for backpackers, but not for a good nights sleep. However, try Luan Vu Guesthouse- 35/2 Bui Vien Street- if you want to be in the thick of things but away from the noises of this bustling city. Its down a small alley, and the staff are lovely. Rooms are small, albeit very clean, and internet and breakfast are included in the price. ...

Ritz Hotel - Hanoi

Posted by maclairia on 29/3/2008 at 20:40

Stayed at this fantastic hotel last September, it had only recently opened, and it was such a great place, and in an excellent location. The staff were so friendly and welcoming - and greeted us warmly every time we returned at the end of a day out sightseeing. The rooms were very good, and the tours we organised through the hotel were excellent value and very enjoyable. They are happy to advise on places to see, eat, flights, official taxis so you don't get ripped off, nothing was too much trou ...

Posted by aslocran on 21/2/2008 at 12:06

There is a new restaurant that has not made it into the Tour guides yet. It is called the Dao Tien and the food is top quality. Selections of Western, Thai and Vietnamese are superb and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is located on Bach Dang between the Cam Nam bridge and the Life resort. Friends that I took to the restaurant last month said that they had the best meal in there entire Vietnam trip at the Dao Tien. Great food! ...

But the International Licence quotes, I can ride a Motorbike. Everytime I have hired a Motorbike in Vietnam or Cambodia, no one ever asks me for a Licence, or has the law changed where I've got to show one? So, do I need to spend money on a Licence? Any information appreciated. ron67 ...

Phu Quoc

Posted by leonf on 24/12/2007 at 00:55

Can anyone give me a recent critical view of the beaches in Phu Quoc? We're a 50's aged couple - don't need luxury, just clean & comfortable, & preferrably quiet/undeveloped. Some recent posts I've seen on other sites comment about dirt, garbage & mossies on PQ beaches, but guide books tend to rave about it. Any up to date experience would be welcome. I'm thinking Bo Resort, Mango, or Beach Club from what i read. Thanks! ...

Mid-range hotels in HCMC

Posted by notacrime on 23/8/2007 at 15:08

We were on our way back from the Mekong Delta a few days ago and didn't have anywhere to stay, so we called around the places we knew from travelfish and from our guide books, and from the 'Pathfinder' expat guide. We called about 6 midrange hotels and none had any rooms available. We finally got a room at the Elios, but for only one night since they were full the next day. So we checked in there for one night and then headed over to have dinner at the Glass Noodle and look for a hotel to check ...
