Hi! My boyfriend and I will be in SE Asia from mid-may to mid july - right now we are thinking Thailand to Malaysia to Indonesia - but we are open to suggestions, if you think we are missing something important! We are 20 somethings who love to scuba, hike, and we have been all over Europe living out of our backpacks and are ready to continue the adventure.
I am totally new to the concept of visas - we will be flying from California to Thailand first. Do we need to obtain visas for the countrie ...
We've heard, second hand, of a confirmed independent crossing at the Thailand/Laos border crossing at Ban Huay Kon / Muang Ngoen.
The border had been open for ages to Thais doing 4WD "adventure tours" up to Luang Prabang but we’d been told by the TAT that "there were no plans whatsoever for the crossing to be opened to foreigners at any time in the foreseeable future".
So we assume somebody changed their mind!
What this means is that after spending time exploring Ban Huay Kon, you can ...
Bothe the Bangkok Post and The Nation have stories announcing a new combined tourist visa for Thailand and Cambodia, which in theory is commencing December 27 (today) and will be available from Thai and Cambodian embassies.
The details are still vague at this stage, but it appears to be a visa which will allow 60 days of stay in each country (for a total of 120 days).
On cost, the Nation story says:
"the Thai embassy will charge Bt1,000 for entry into Thailand and the tourist will have t ...

Posted this in the Vietnam section before realizing there was a whole section on Visas...
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I read the FAQs and didn't find anything. This is my first time heading overseas and thus, my first time dealing with Visas.
I'm flying into Hanoi in early January with plans on exploring Vietnam for ~1 month, exiting into Cambodia in the south before continuing on to Thailand. However I'm also flying out of Hanoi to come back home mid-March and am unsure of ...
Hi, I would like to hear from anyone who has used the Vietnam visa approval letter successfully on entry to Vietnam. I am just a bit unsure and I don't want to arrive and be told it is not valid!
I am an Australian citizen.
I will be in Thailand/Malaysia for 34 days altogether...am I right in believing you get 30days free any time after this u have to have a travel visa?! If so how do I go about this for those extra 4days? ...
I'm currently planning my first trip to South-East Asia in January 2013 with one other friend. The issues I'm currently having are to do with visa's and clearly up some confusion but as this is my first trip any sort of help at all is welcome.
I have been reading numerous message boards online about travel in the area so I hope the questions I ask aren't too ridiculous. We are currently looking at purchasing one way flights to Bangkok than travelling North in Thailand, crossing the border ...
Hi all. I am sorry if this question has been answered before but I am not able to find an answer in the forums. Basically this should be simple: I arrive on December 1st in BKK and planning to get the 15 days visa on arrival which applies for my country. The arrival time is 2 AM. My question is which date and time exactly the visa expires? Is it at the end of day on December 15th? I bought a plane ticket to Vietnam on the 15th at around 4 PM and don't want to have any problems. Thank you so much ...
I was wondering if anyone could help me? I will be traveling Thailand/Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam from roughly 28th December for 6 weeks, we are flying from KL/Singapore to Hanoi then making our way on land in and out of Thailand/ Camboida/ Laos/ Vietnam..
Does anyone know what visas we will need?
We are only doing 2 or 3 locations in each place, then spending the last 2 weeks doing the Thailand Islands eventually getting to KL.
Ive read that we can get a visa for Laos and Camboida at bo ...
My friend and I are about to take off to motorbike down the coast from Hanoi to HCMC. However when we leave our visas will only have about 15 days left and we feel we want more time so were not rushed.
So our question is: what cities can you get a 1 month visa extension? So far I've heard Hanoi, HCMC, Hoi An and Danag but am having a hard time either confirming or denying this online.
Does anyone know for sure?
Just a quick question. I'm flying into Bangkok on Feb 3, but flying home from Hanoi in mid July. I've read a few times that you need a return flight to avoid trouble at the airport. Will the flight home from Hanoi suffice, or does it have to be from Bangkok? For the record, I'm Australian and I'm only going to spend 30 visa free days in Thailand.
I hope that makes sense.
I recently visited Hat Yai, Thailand with my uncle and my aunt. We took a bus from Kuala Lumpur and entered Thailand at the Sadao crossing. The Thai immigration officer asked us for RM2 each, without saying what it is for. Not wanting to cause any fuss, we paid. After all, what is 2 ringgit?
Coming back into Malaysia a couple of days later, the thai immigration officer this time asked me to pay RM10, saying something about how I don't have a visa in Malaysia and that time on my malaysian stam ...
i know this question has been asked a fair bit but i havnt read a definite answer saying yes or no or information on where and how. I know i can get one in Vientiane but im hoping to bypass this city and fly straight to Luang Prabang from Thailand. And i read the thread about getting one online. would prefer to get it in person.
So can i get a Vietnamese Visa in Luang Prabang? Any ideas on cost? how long will it take? Where can I get it from?

I am an Indian resident and going on a cruise. I have following queries-
1. My cruise will start from Singapore then it will go to Malaysia and then Thailand and then back to Singapore. Once I reach back Singapore I plan to re enter Thailand and stay there for 2 months. Will I need double entry visa or single entry?
2. Do I have to book hotels for 60 days in advance as per Thai law or just booking hotel for initial 2-3 days is also fine?
3. Do I have to book return ticket from thai ...
Hello, a couple of questions about the slow boat crossing the border between chau doc in Vietnam and PP, Cambodia.
I have read a lot in forums on here some say there is no slow boat and then some people say the slow boat is more comfortable and has a toilet and only takes 6 hours.
Well we are in a dilemma with what to do, we opted for a slow boat as we are on a really tight budget and don't mind a longer boat journey. However all day today our guide has been on at us to pay a little extra and ge ...
I don't know what the best option is regarding visa in Thailand.
My travel plan options are:
1) fly in to Bangkok, get a free 30 day visa, traveling by train to Chaing Mai, then all overland, 1 week Laos, 1 week Vietnam, 1 week Cambodia, flying from Phnom Penh to Bangkok (£45 flight) to get another 30 free day visa, then spending 3 weeks Island hopping.
2)Fly to Bangkok, spending 2 - 3 days here, traveling over land, 1 week Cambodia, 1 week Vietnam, 1 week Laos, over land to Cha ...
