Border Crossings on Motorbikes....advice needed

Posted by moomin1802 on 28/5/2011 at 19:06

We are currently in Siem Reap, Cambodia and own a Minsk (with vietnamese plates and papers) and a dirt bike (with cambodian plates no papers). We are planning on heading across the border into Laos at Dong Kralor then spend 1 month in Lao before crossing into Thailand on the same bikes (cross at either the Nong Khai friendship bridge or at Chaing Khong/Huay Xai in the north) Firstly, is this possible as one of the bikes has no papers? Also, we have heard stories on various forums about having ...

Avoid Train From Nong Khai To Thalang!!!

Posted by Naturepunk324 on 25/5/2011 at 09:57

This place is a scam. 1. The worker behind the counter lied to me and told me the train went all the way to Veintaine when, in reality, it goes just over teh bridge where it dumps you at imagration. About 20-30 Baht for a 5 minute train ride (Which I know might not sound like a lot of money when you compare it everything back home, but as a long term budget traveler who had just paid 250 to go all the way from Bangkok (612 Km's and a 12 hour trip) I was a pit pissed. 2. Even though it was almost ...

Crossing into Thailand by land - Visa extension

Posted by flexo_24 on 12/5/2011 at 13:05

Hi guys, So, a pretty simple question, and one that I'm a bit emabrassed to be asking on this sort of forum as I'm sure the answer is out there, but I've been trawling the internet and travelfish for hours now and can't find the answer. So apologies if this is a really easy question to answer. I'm hoping to cycle from Singapore all the way up to the Thai border where I'll get a 15 Day Visa (as I'm entering on land) so then I have 15 days to get an extension on the visa. The question is just wh ...

Border crossing at Poipet

Posted by jgnitt on 9/5/2011 at 20:23

My friend and I are currently in Phnom Penh and going on to Siem Reap tomorrow. From there we were planning on heading to Bangkok on the 12th or 13th by a combination of taxi/bus and crossing the border at Poipet on foot. Can anyone let me know if we need to have a departure ticket from Thailand to do this? I've seen mixed reviews on the internet, and while we could fly in if absolutely necessary, it would really cut into our trip budget and we'd rather save the money traveling by land. Anyone w ...

Posted by HexagonalBolts on 5/5/2011 at 06:39

Hello everyone, I know that there are ton of threads asking this question but I can't find any that apply to my specific case. I live in England. I am flying to Thailand from Nepal on June 29th. I want to stay there for around 21 days. I will then go travelling in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, and return to Thailand for a few days just to get my flight back home from Bangkok on August 19th. At first I thought I would be OK with a visa exemption, as I am there for under 30 days, and then when re- ...

Indonesia: Second 60 day visa

Posted by WonderingTsar on 28/4/2011 at 09:59

Hi Does anyone have an up-to-date position on getting a second 60 day tourist visa for Indonesia ? I have a 211 / 60 day tourist visa (UK passport) and I will want a second 60 days. I was planning on going to Singapore and applying for a fresh one. There are some old posts on another travel forum saying that you can get an agent (sponsor) to extend it twice in country for 30 days each, but you have to be in a big city. Is that still the case? How much does it cost it and is Bali big enoug ...

Haad Yao to Langkawi on Tigerline

Posted by WonderingTsar on 11/3/2011 at 10:08

Hi all The Tigerline ferry goes from various points in South West Thailand then Haat Yao (near trang) then Koh Lipe on to Langkawi Malaysia. I know that there is an im/emigration office on Lipe, but how does it work (stamp out of Thailand) if you are going direct from Haat Yao to Langkawi? I don't think that there is an immigration/emigration office in Haat Yao. Do Tigerline wait for you to go ashore at Lipe and get stamped out there, or is there a Thai office in Langkawi, or what? I want ...

Crossing Le thanh border by motorbike

Posted by onzereis on 21/1/2011 at 21:36

Since thereis not much information about crossing de Le Thanh border in Vietnam intoCambodia by motorbike. I’ll write down our experience with this bordercrossing. First of aldon’t take any shortcuts in Vietnam, stick to the main road (ql14). We tried ashortcut and ended up in a police station in the middle of nowhere. We couldn’tgo futher and had to ride all the way back and take the 14 to Pleiku. The road we thought was quicker was 14C. At Pleikutake the road to ‘La dom’ were the Le ...
