Vietnam - Visa on arrival - does it work?

Posted by sprengja on 13/11/2008 at 00:43

Hi, We plan to fly to Saigon from Bangkok. As we stay in Bangkok just for 4 hours we have to get visa for Vietnam in advance. There are some offers in the internet that you can get visa on arrival for vietnam. They charge you about 12 Euro and you get a visa approval letter. They say you have to show it at the airport and will get a visa for US$ 25,-. This seems much cheaper than if you try to get the visa at the embassy in Austria (€ 72,-) - but does it work??? Who has experience with this ...

Tay Trang border crossing IS open for tourists

Posted by matan84 on 4/8/2007 at 17:19

i just read in this website that the northern border crossing between laos and vietnam, "Tay Trang", is still closed. this is a mistake. i HAVE crossed that border into vietnam two weeks ago, without any problem. it has been opened in may 2007. to get into vietnam, a bus leaves three times a week from muang khua (on the lao side) to dien bien phu (the vietnamese side) at 7am, and costs 40,000 kips. you CAN NOT issue a vietnamese visa at the border, you will need to do it before hand in lua ...

Difficulties crossing from Laos to Vietnam due to flooding

Posted by somtam2000 on 6/11/2008 at 16:21

If you're planning on using the Tay Trang border crossing between northern Laos and Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam, we've just heard on the grapevine that ferries are refusing to cross the Nam Wa river near Muang Khua due to swollen rivers. This means it is impossible (at the moment) to get from Muang Khua to the border. The border remains open apparently, but if you're planning on approaching from the Lao side in the next day or two, you may want to slow down and hang out in Luang Prabang for a co ...

e ticket as proof of onward travel?

Posted by ee104 on 28/10/2008 at 18:04

Hi guys, i have read that the regulations for visas in Thailand have changed a little recently and that now, especially at the poipet border with Cambodia, they are checking proof of onward travel. I arrive in Thailand and will spend 10 days going north to Laos/Vietnam - i guess this will come under the 30 day tourist stamp and i will not need a visa- I will arrive back in thailand via cambodia again for less than 30 days before i head off to malaysia. However my RTW ticket is an E-t ...

Multiple Entry Visa to Vietnam

Posted by cesmonde on 20/10/2008 at 07:57

Hi, Starting December I am starting a 3 month holiday in SE Asia, (so excited!!!) starting and ending in Bangkok. Towards the end of the trip we're planning on spending a month in Vietnam then heading up to Yunnan Province for a fortnight. We're on a tight budget so the cheapest flight I could find back to Bangkok (to fly back to Australia)was from Hanoi. So I want to leave Kunming and arrive at Hanoi via bus to fly directly to Bangkok. At this point our original 30 day Vietnam visa will have ex ...

laos visa in hanoi, April 2008

Posted by cplhsu on 22/4/2008 at 17:46

Just thought I'd let any Aussie travellers know.... the going rate for a visa in Hanoi is $45 USD, you get it the next day - and this is at the Lao embassy visa branch located at 40 P Quang Trung, near Bay Nau Lake. The address listed in the LP for Lao embassy is correct, but they dont do visas there. You can get a visa for a similar price from the travel agencies around town but they tend to quote you different figures - between $45 to 50, for a visa in 2 days. The advantage is that you dont ...
