Bo Y border crossing

Posted by caiuss on 7/9/2007 at 18:11

Hi, As I got the information about this border crossing mainly from the TravelFish site (Visa and border crossing FAQ), I thought I should share this: I crossed from Laos to Vietnam at Bo Y without any problem. The Vietnamese formalities were even faster than when I entered Vietnam from China at Mong Cai. My Rough Guide to Laos (from Feb 2007) says that the border was closed to foreigners at the time of writing. However when I checked the Rough Guide to Vietnam (Sep 2006) I found they say ...

Overseas Vietnamese (and family) visa exemption

Posted by xtrinh on 3/9/2007 at 03:10

If you can prove you are ethnically Vietnamese, new regulation allows overseas Vietnamese and their families to enter Vietnam without visas as of September 1. But you must still obtain a visa exemption certificate, which allows multiple entries and a stay of up to three months at a time. The certificate will be valid five years. http://www.thanhniennews.com/overseas/?catid=12&newsid=31145 ...

Posted by sonicbum on 13/8/2007 at 18:42

August 9, 2007 I looked around for the cheapest deal for a VISA RUN, and they cheapest I could find it for, which included the Myanmar VISA STAMP was 1300 baht, but I ended up going with a travel agent that was right next to my guesthouse (Highway 61 Revisited, on Nanai Rd for 300 baht per night for a week with a/c and an automattic bike for rent for 500 baht for a week as well) because he would meet me there the next morning and the bus would pick me up there for 1400 baht. Entering China from Vietnam

Posted by jamestaylo on 8/7/2007 at 18:47

The internet, in all its deviltry, has given me conflicting reports. Is it possible for an American to take a train from Hanoi to Beijing and enter China with a Chinese visa that was not issued in Vietnam? We will be crossing over in Dong Dang. My girlfriend’s visa will be issued in the USA and mine will be issued in Taiwan. Is it even possible to get a Chinese visa stateside if you plan on entering from Vietnam? ...

Entering Thailand on a visa-free entry

Posted by somtam2000 on 25/6/2007 at 12:11

There are increasing reports of travellers being denied entry to Thailand when arriving in-country planning to use the 30 day visa-free policy if they do not possess an air-ticket out of Thailand within the same 30 day period. The latest report is from the Pong Nam Ron crossing between Cambodia and Thailand from five days ago, where two tourists were denied entry and had to remain in Cambodia. While technically on the books for years, this regulation has not been enforced in the past and o ...

Posted by somtam2000 on 16/6/2007 at 09:37

According to this post on the Lonely Planet Thorntree, the much anticipated coastal border crossing between Cambodia and Vietnam is now officially open for foreigners. The crossing, close to Kep in Cambodia and Ha Tien in Vietnam, will allow travellers to head from Ko Chang in Thailand to Phu Quoc in Vietnam without passing through central Cambodia. According to the report, neither Cambodian, nor Vietnamese visas are available at the crossing. You must have your visa beforehand. The pos ...

Another Thai Visa Question

Posted by trippymctwist on 5/6/2007 at 23:08

I have a roundtrip ticket from Los Angeles to Bangkok leaving June 20 and Returning Aug 29. From what I understand I don't need a Thai visa because I will also be traveling to Laos and Cambodia and therefore will not be in Thailand for more than thirty days consecutively. That's what the Thai embasy in Washington told me and that's what everyone says here. However, when I called the airline (Korean Air) they told me that because I have more than thirty days between my arrival and departure dates ...

Successful Bo Y crossing from Vietnam into Laos

Posted by kiwigirl on 25/5/2007 at 19:58

Hi, Just to let everyone know we did successfully cross this border in this diretion from Vietnam into Laos yesterday (Thursday 24th May 07) - no troubles at all. Got VATACO bus from Qui Nhon in Vietnam and arrived in Pakse, Laos, safe and well. Cost was around 17 USD (250,000 dong) each. Trip time was slow to say the least (not the 12 hours quoted) - total trip was around the 20 hour mark - arriving in Pakse around 3am but very interesting trip (including bus crew chasing and catching ...

Still confused about Thai Visa

Posted by chris123 on 23/4/2007 at 17:09

I fly into Bangkok as the first stage of a RTW trip. However the next flight in our itinerary is from Singapore - we had intended to travel overland to Hanoi and get a flight from there to Singapore. This will all be in space of three weeks. We have a similar situation on our way home, where we are again flying into Bangkok but our homeward flight, 3 weeks later, is out of Singapore. In this period, we do not plan to leave Thailand until getting a flight to S'pore. The way I understand ...

Changes to Thai visa regulations

Posted by somtam2000 on 16/4/2007 at 13:14

There's a long, long, long discussion over at ThaiVisa about those entering Thailand under the 30-day visa free entry method. A theoretical requirement of this type of entry has always been that the person have an onwards ticket out of Thailand and 10,000B. I say theoretical in that in the past these requirements were never checked. It seems that has changed. As of early April, there are reports particularly at the Poipet border crossing between Thailand and Cambodia that the onwards ti ...

Laos Thailand border crossing

We are soon to undertake an eight week trip in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thialand. I am trying to find out if it is easy to get from Pakxe to Ubon Ratchathani (then catch a train to Bangkok). I understand there is a border crossing near to Pakxe. Is it easy to cross at this point. We will need to get Thai visas at the border crossing, but I understand this shouldnt be a problem as we are already booked on a flight out of Thailand. Any help, advice etc, would be much apreciated. Steve ...
