Visas - travelling from Thailand - Laos - Cambodia

Posted by Rachaelbb on 10/11/2006 at 03:56

Hi, I am just wondering about the best way to get my Laos and Cambodia visas. I plan to travel into northern Thailand and cross the border to Laos. Can I get my visa for Laos easily at the border crossing or would I be better to get it at a travel agent or embassy in Bangkok? Then I plan to fly from Vientiane to Phnom Phen. Can I get my Cambodia visa at the airport upon arrival or am I better to get it at a travel agent or embassy in Bangkok? Any help would be greatly appreciated! ...

Lao visa exemption for ASEAN

Posted by skinnylatte on 23/11/2006 at 12:51

If I wasn't hallucinating, I do believe that Laos no longer requires a visa for those from my country (i.e. Singapore). That might have happened last year, though information is scarce and the Lao embassy NEVER picks up the phone. I'm sure this will be honoured if I fly in to Laos, but what are the chances that they'll insist on me getting one anyway, if I cross the land borders? That was my experience in Cambodia, when I crossed at Koh Kong and even though I didn't require a visa they made m ...

Vietnam visas - maybe not available between 25 Oct -25 Nov

Posted by ClaireM on 8/11/2006 at 08:08

From NZ Foreign Affairs site Travel to Viet Nam 25 October-25 November 2006 Travellers to Viet Nam should be aware that no D class visitors’ visas will be issued by the Vietnamese government from 25 October to 25 November 2006. This is a precautionary security measure to cover the period of the APEC Conference to be held in Ha Noi from 12 to 19 November 2006. Those, however, intending to visit Viet Nam during this period for the purpose of work, attending a conference, cooperation, inv ...

N Vietnam to Laos

We are travelling up through Vietnam and don't really want to have to go south again to cross to Laos. Does anyone have any advice on what would be the best/most northern border crossing to Laos as we were hoping to cross after going up to Sapa in Vietnam, taking into account time and terrain. ...

Vietnam visa - from London?

Posted by gillfred on 12/9/2006 at 21:20

Does anyone know if you can get a Vietnam visa from London? We are going to visit Vietnam for 1 week, after travelling through Thailand and Laos for 2/3 weeks (leaving UK 4th Oct for this trip). I know we could get one in Bangkok, but ideally we would prefer to get it sorted beforehand so that we can enjoy Bangkok and we are also only in Bangkok for 3 days so may not have time to get one arranged in time. ...

New Thai visa rules

Posted by somtam2000 on 12/9/2006 at 11:36

As of October 1, 2006, new regulations regarding the 30-day visa-free entry to Thailand will come into play. The guts of the new regulations appears to be that once three consecutive 30-day visa free entries have been granted, the visitor will then be required to be outside of Thailand for 90 days before any further visas will be granted. While some of the details of how this will be enforced remain murky, the new regulations appear to be aimed primarily at long-term abusers of this system r ...

Visa/Mastercard

Posted by Danka on 5/7/2006 at 19:02

Hi, I remember reading about this topic somewhere on this messageboard before but I can't find the conversation anymore. Someone said that VISA would generally be better accepted than Mastercard in SE Asia. I only have a Mastercard, so I also ordered a Visa for my 3-month trip starting end of August. However, now I heard that Visa and Mastercard have merged and are now actually the same company and consequently they should both be accepted equally. Does anyone know anything about this? Is Mas ...

Best plan for Vietnam/Cambodia/Thailand visas

Posted by adelene on 10/5/2006 at 16:14

Hi, I keep seeing conflicting advice in travel guides/on the internet. There are lots of companies offering to get your visas for you online before you go - are these reputable? On STA Travel it says you don't need a visa for Thailand, though I seem to have an inkling that you do... So anyway, my plan was to get a Cambodian visa at the overland border from Thailand, but to take a trip to the Vietnam Embassy in London before I go to get a visa for that part of the trip. But as Vietnam is last ...

Vietnam/Laos/Cambodja crossing & visa

Posted by julesie on 25/8/2006 at 22:57

Hello there, I am planning to travel end of september from Vietnam over South Laos into Cambodja. However, I have heard that the Laos - Cambodja crossing is a real pain in the ass (difficult to find transport, bribery)? Has anybody got experience? Do you know if there exists visa on arrival for both the Vietnam Laos crossing (Lao Bao) and the Laos-Cambodja crossing? Alternatively, I will try to arrange them in Hanoi? Any idea how long that takes? Julie ...

Laos-Vietnam Border Crossing (Na Maew/Nam Xoi)

Posted by nobbers on 9/8/2006 at 22:35

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had used the Na Maew-Nam Xoi border crossing. I hope to be travelling through there on December 30th. I've heard that travelling from Luang Prabang to the Border at Na Maew is very uncomfortable. If anyone has travelled this route and if you could tell me how long it took to get from Louang Prabang to the border and from the border crossing to Hanoi (I want to be in Hanoi for Dec 31st), and if it's comfortable or would I be better off flying or using a ...
