Volunteer in an English language school in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Posted by vietnamobsessed on 19/1/2010 at 19:42

Hi, when I was in Siem Reap I met a really lovely group of Cambodian teachers who are trying to run an English language school whilst holding down other jobs. We did an evening teaching (that was all we had time for) and had a real laugh. The teachers are all under 25 and would appreciate help from tourists passing through the area, even if it is only one evening, so I said I would spread the word. The school is called Norwest School and its easily reached by tuk tuk from the main hostel ar ...

The fee is $200 USD/week and this covers accomodation, delicious food, orientation and transportation to job sites. It really is a great deal and the extr ...

Volunteering english teachingin Cambodia and Laos?

Posted by Donman1990 on 10/4/2012 at 01:57

Hi, I'm planning on doing 3-4 months backpacking next year through Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. during this time I'm really hoping to do some volunteer English teaching, particularly in Cambodia, but I'd also be happy to do some in Laos. The main question I have is, to what extent do you need to organize this before leaving? Is it easy enough to do a 2-4 weeks of volunteer work in these areas just through meeting people in the area, or do I have to go through an application system before I leave? ...

Posted by liltraveler on 21/11/2011 at 15:08

Hi, I am leaving in January to travel solo for the next 6 months. I am looking for free and reputable volunteer organizations in Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. I have a lot of experience with leading and participating in various volunteer or service work. I am looking for environmental organizations, children, and community development. I do not speak any of the languages in the region, but am going to get certified to teach English before I leave if that is helpful. Please let me know if you ...

Health Related Volunteering

Posted by absandjenna on 30/10/2011 at 02:54

Hi, We are traveling to Southeast Asia in 2012 for 4-6 months and we would like to spend a significant portion of time volunteering for a health related organization or program. I have a human bio/nutrition degree and my fellow traveler has a women's and reproductive health/bio degree. We are not looking to pay but everything we are finding requires a large payment. Does anyone know of opportunities specifically in Laos, Cambodia, or Vietnam? We are very flexible with our travels so fill us i ...

English teaching in northern Laos

Posted by johnm on 27/1/2011 at 23:47

If anyone is planning to visit the caves in Vieng Xai (and is wondering if there's anything else to do there), I strongly recommend volunteering at a small ESL school in the village. It's run by a guy named Make Phomvilay, and it's located near the Vieng Xai Caves Visitor Center. I was there in March and June last year and spent many hours helping the students practice basic English. You don't need to be a trained teacher, and you don't need to sign on for the long term. The kids just need ...

volunteering in thailand

Posted by luciedudek on 23/10/2011 at 11:57

Hello! I am currently planning my trip to Thailand, for next year (around November to January 2012). I would be really interested in volunteering for a minimum of two weeks, anywhere in Thailand. I love working with children, and i would be particularly interested in working in an orphanage or teaching English! I am having quite a bit of trouble finding something though, as many organizations are asking for huge fees... I have been told that these fees do not benefit the children, and that many ...

Hi all, I am wanting to volunteer as a nurse (which I am) or in some capacity in which I can use my knowledge and skills to help out people in asia. I am in Australia and am looking to go in January/February 2012 for 3 - 6 weeks. Does anyone know of any good organisations that take volunteers to administer nursing care or health education? I have previously travelled to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia so I have some experience there. So I really want somewhere I can just go and help as o ...

Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, Vietnam?

Posted by karigirl on 18/8/2011 at 03:22

Hi, I am new to the forum and looking for information about Vietnam. I am in the very beginning stages of volunteering abroad with the organization Volunteer HQ. I was given a choice between working in orphanages either in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. If any one can share their personal preference it would be greatly appreciated. I believe that Ho Chi Minh is very urban, and since I currently live right outside of New York City, I want to have as much of a culturally diverse experience as possib ...

Socially Responsible Travel

Posted by erinmFWC on 18/8/2011 at 05:02

Hi. I'm a first-time poster but read through a lot of the posts here before traveling to Cambodia recently. Thanks all for your help. This seems like the right section to post this in but apologies if not. It's not strictly volunteerism related but involves socially responsible travel in general - i.e. I didn't donate time to any organizations but tried to make ethical choices on the places I stayed and services I used. Anyway, before I left for Cambodia, a friend recommended this guidebook ...

My fiance and I are going to be traveling through Southeast Asia in the fall, and are looking into volunteering at the New Life Foundation in Chiang Rai. We found the center through WWOOF, and it is a retreat for people recovering from substance abuse. Just wondering if anyone has any experience volunteering here who could give us an idea of what the work and accommodations are like. Thanks! ...

Volunteer Opportunities in South East Asia?? Help!

Posted by misscherie on 22/1/2010 at 17:05

Hi there, Me and my partner are hoping to travel Thailand, Cambodia and Laos for a few months in September (the rainy season woo!). By the way, for those of you have been in Sep/Oct, is it really that bad? The question I really wanted to ask about is about volunteer opportunities in these countries. I'm a bit skeptical of all of these touristy 'organisations' that charge a fee for you to volunteer! I would love to volunteer with animals especially, and saw a project with sea turtles or ele ...
