The Vegetarian

The Vegetarian is doing brisk business in part due to its central location on Street 19, option of garden courtyard or interior dining, and incredibly obvious name.

And the food’s good, and ridiculously good value for money with many dishes hovering around the $1.50/$2 mark. The dishes are simple and light — if you’re hungry a main might not be quite enough but the starters are some of their best selections. We didn’t find it to be the most exciting vegetarian food in the world, but it’s a good place for a quick, healthy meal and a fresh juice. The restaurant is owned by a vegetarian from Malaysia, which may have inspired the vegetarian laksa on the menu. You can sit in air-con comfort inside, or enjoy the sweet garden courtyard. Both settings are small and intimate, which make for a pleasant atmosphere with something almost collegiate in the simplicity.
