The real deal
As a New Yorker born and bred, I know just how seriously people can take their bagels. Not every roll with a hole counts. A bagel has got to have the right smell, it must be soft but not mushy, and the best bagels are so overflowing with dough that the hole is nowhere near a perfect circle. BKK Bagel Bakery is the closest you’ll come to the real-deal in Bangkok.
Unlike the other popular pastry joint down the street — Krispy Kreme — getting served here does not involve snaking lines and a four-hour wait. This bagel shop is busy but not packed and is a nice urban spot for a cup-of-joe in the morning. The bagels themselves hit the mark and come in a range of flavours for only 35 baht, and add an extra 30 baht to choose your favourite kind of cream cheese.
Delicious sandwiches, also served on bagels, go from 150 to 225 baht and are hearty lunch options. Smoked salmon, fresh veggies, hummus and the stand-out Show Stopper with homemade roasted turkey, avocado spread, bacon, cheese and mustard.
A range of coffee and juices are also on offer, although inexplicably the menu is currently devoid of English teas.
