Bargain rates for a sunset cruise

More on Mawlamyine
While formerly restricted to trying to locate the daily public boat or wandering down to the jetty and negotiating with a boatman, organised boat cruises up the Than Lwin River are now an increasingly advertised option in Mawlamyine.
Travelfish says:

Since we were travelling all the way up river to Hpa-An anyway we didn’t actually try this trip ourselves but the boat looked fine, rates were extremely competitive and it seemed like a very good initiative. There’s probably a few more by the time you’re reading this but the tour we found – a sunset version – departed at 16:00, returning to town at 18:00-18:30. It takes in Shampoo Island and heads a little way up the Than Lwin past riverbank pagodas before turning out into the Gulf along Bilu Island and making a return loop to a Strand Road jetty.

Life jackets are provided and an English-speaking guide is part of the crew. The boat’s large enough for walking space, a toilet is on board and cold drinks and snacks on sale. This will certainly depart daily during high season but since they claim to go with a minimum of two people only you should be okay – weather permitting – at most times of year.

You may see this advertised at your guesthouse or hotel or pop into their office on Strand Road near the Ngwe Moe Hotel. Prices start at 12,000 kyat per person for two people, and go steadily down to 3,500 kyat per person for 13 people and up.
