Along this long stretch of coastline are numerous entry points, all with their own pluses and minuses and all charging 3,000 rupiah to enter. But the best spot is arguably at the far end of the beach where Joel’s Bungalows (T: 0813 7528 7765) lies tucked under a cliff. Joel’s has an expensive cafe serving decent pizza, pasta and juices plus a handful of spectacular bungalows perched a short way up the cliff face. You can choose between private or shared bathroom for 150,000/100,000 rupiah respectively.

This beach is worth a day trip from Banda Aceh if you have some spare time and a few nights if you really love the beach. The bungalows at Joel’s are also able to be rented long-term and when we visited one of the bungalows was being rented for three months by a foreign couple.

Around this area are some fantastic surfing spots and most people visit these on rented motorcycles. To reach Lampuuk, you can either catch a labi-labi from the Banda Aceh terminal to the main road in Lampuuk for 10,000 rupiah (plus a long walk from there) or pay a becak driver 40,000 rupiah for a trip that drops you right off on the beach.
