Low Yat Plaza

Our rating:

With six floors of IT retailers offering the latest technology, the best deals and service centres to fix your computer or mobile woes, Plaza Low Yat is a digital mecca; the plaza is to Malaysia what Sim Lim Square is to Singapore.

Centrally located in the middle of Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi and Jalan Pudu, the plaza offers various IT hypermarkets, concept stores, cameras, digital games, telecommunications products and services, service centres and digital accessories. If you’re visiting Malaysia and you need a local SIM card to make calls, almost every service provider has a shop or stall here, so it’s a good place to get hooked up.

Multiple floors to browse, bargain and choose.

There isn’t a streamlined arrangement between retailers, just a great variety of products offered by individual shops, which allows the average shopper greater purchasing power and most products can be bargained for here. Always make sure to shop around, negotiate and try to score the best package – with so much competition, it’s not hard to get value for money here. It’s also good to note that there used to be a couple of retailers selling pirated or fake items, but those have been removed by the government and replaced with stores selling original products, so you shouldn’t have to worry about getting ripped off.

The ground floor is where you’ll find promotions, so stop and look!

Much like the Digital Mall, most cell phone glitches can be fixed here for an average of 40 to 60 ringgit, and you’ll also be able to jailbreak most mobile phones. An authorised Apple Service Centre is located at Low Yat, although an assessment fee of 100 ringgit is the standard charge and you’ll usually get your beloved back only after three working days.

Restaurants are also here, including Starbucks, Sushi King and Hong Kong Food Culture as well as a good selection of Asian food on the lower ground floor — Kopi Club, Kimchi Mom, Taro Ramen Restaurant and Noor Chicken Rice are all here.

To get here, catch the monorail to the nearest station is Jalan Imbi.
