Set in an attractive heritage building that once served as city hall, this disheveled museum is worth a passing wander if you care to learn about the area's history and culture.
With no shortage of photographs but not much else, the museum offers comprehensible English info on Nong Khai's Vietnamese and Chinese communities, sacred temples, famous meditation monks and the archaeological sites uncovered in nearby Tha Bo district. Along with some old swords and traditional tools, you'll also find a few ceramic pots and other bits from the archaeological excavations.
The museum is centrally located on Mee Chai Road, next to the provincial courthouse.
