You're certainly not going to travel across the country to experience Than Thong Waterfall, but if you're making your own way between Lampang and Phayao, it makes for a comfortable spot to break the ride (or drive).
This is one of Lampang's more easily visited waterfalls, as Than Thong runs off a cliff right beside the road. A couple of food stalls at the base offer pleasant enough spots for weary travellers to rest.
This is a small waterfall though and is certainly not worth getting off the bus for. If you're travelling under your own steam, stop here for a cool drink and stretch your legs. There are actually two parts to the falls, with the second section running down a rock face about 30 metres from the main falls.
The waterfall is on Route 120 between Wang Neua and Phayao -- and is a long way from Lampang's provincial capital.
How to get there
The waterfall is around 30km from Wang Neua on the road to Phayao (route 120).
