Although Singapore has excellent public transport, there’s still something appealing about exploring a new city via a hop-on hop-off bus service. There are multiple options for these bus tours, so here’s the low-down on how they differ.

Duck & Hippo Tours operate two sightseeing bus services. The Original Tour bus drives a loop between the must-see attractions in central Singapore like the Esplanade waterfront, Clarke Quay, Orchard Road and Chinatown. There’s a recorded commentary available in eight languages and tickets cost S$18 for adults or S$13 for children aged three to 12. The City Sightseeing bus is more expensive at S$27 for adults and S$19 for children, but the buses go to some further destinations like the Botanic Gardens and Thieves’ Market and it includes a walking tour of Chinatown and Little India. Both tours have open-top double-decked buses so you can soak up the tropical sunshine and the greatest frequency with a bus every 20 minutes. You can buy tickets online, at kiosks on Orchard Road and Clarke Quay, or on board the bus. The tickets are valid for 24 hours, meaning if you buy it at 14:00 you can use it until the same time the next day.

You’ll never wonder “Is that my bus?” if you tour Singapore on the orange open-top FunVee bus. With three routes (City Attractions, Sentosa Attractions and Ethnic Attractions) FunVee covers the greatest number of attractions and had live commentary, but the waiting time between buses can be up to an hour. On the positive, FunVee is a great value with day passes for S$19.90 for adults or S$16.90 for children, and two-day passes for S$29.90 / $22.90 including a free boat tour on the Singapore River. Buy your ticket on board, online, or at participating hotel tour desks.

Singapore Airlines operates its own tourist bus called the SIA Hop-On. It’s very functional with stops at all the must-see attractions like the Botanic Gardens, Chinatown, Little India, Orchard Road and Marina Bay and a bus arriving approximately every 30 minutes. However, without a commentary or open roof, it isn’t as much fun at the other bus tours. SIA Hop-On is free if you’re on a Singapore Airlines stop-over holiday, S$6 adults / S$3 children if you show a recent Singapore Airlines ticket or S$12 adults / S$6 children for everyone else. Buy your ticket on board.
